Accessibility statement

AWEF wants every woman and community member to be able to read, understand and use this website.

In short

  • We work to WCAG 2.2 level AA across this website.
  • We write in plain English and explain any term we cannot avoid.
  • If something does not work for you, tell us and we will provide it another way.

Our commitment

We are committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, whatever device or assistive technology you use. We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

On this website you can:

  • move through every page with a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus indicator
  • skip straight to the main content from the top of each page
  • zoom in and resize text using your browser settings
  • hear a written description of every photograph with a screen reader
  • rely on headings that follow a logical order and links that say where they lead
  • use the site without animation when your device asks for reduced motion

Form messages are announced to screen readers, and colours are chosen to meet contrast standards.

Plain language

We explain rights, support and opportunities in plain English and keep jargon out. Where a technical or legal term cannot be avoided, we explain it. If anything on this site is hard to understand, tell us and we will provide it in a clearer form.

Known limitations

This website has not yet had an independent accessibility audit. We check it as we build it and fix problems as they are found.

Some journeys, such as booking an event, signing in as a member or making a donation, open pages run by our technology and payment providers. We choose providers carefully but do not control how those pages are built, so they may not meet the same standard.

If you find something that does not work with your assistive technology, tell us the page and what happened. We will fix what we can and let you know what we have done.
